Why we still build physical models

In a world of digital twins, a white model on a table still catches the clashes and access problems nobody saw on screen.

The table test

Every major plant we design passes through a physical model review. Operators, maintenance teams and the client stand around it, and the questions change. Can I get a forklift here? Where does the crane land? Which valve do I close first?

What models catch

On our last ten projects, model reviews caught an average of 14 access and maintenance issues that had survived the 3D design review. Every one of them is cheaper to fix in foam than in steel.

Digital and physical

The model doesn't replace the digital twin. It complements it. The twin answers what, and the model makes people ask how.
